no don't, I save up for these trips and you can take them too. the trick is: save up some money then buy the ticket for two/three months hence -- giving you time (and pressure) to save the rest.
also if travelling in the third world, the ticket is your biggest expense. Or else visit where you have a friend you can stay with. or go to www.couchsurfing.com and find a spot to sleep for free!
