seaplane is a rad store here in portland, they sell my little shrinky dink pin charms (not pictured) and they make and sell gorgeous clothes. I am the lucky lucky girl who gets to dj their fashion shows. This year the direction given was "beautiful but creepy". I could spin 3 days worth of records when you ask for that. Maybe more.

I don't have photos of the actual show, since I was busy with the records. But you can check out www.e-seaplane.com and www.urbanhonking.com/seaplane for more info.

tour report

| | Comments (0)

here it is, as promised, guest blogger DB with Merch Girl Adventures:

anyway, tour is going okay. this is what we do:

we get on a bus at night and get to a new city the next morning, swim in the pool, take showers, go to the venue, unload, hang out for a couple of hours, sell some shirts, load everything up, get on the bus, hang out, watch bad movies, smoke, get into the bunk, wake up the next morning. new city.

i think i'm getting used to it. attached is a photo we took last night from my laptop. we're in the back lounge of the bus. thought you might like it.

Brian Slaughter and Sarah Meadows pictured above. Sarah organized the show, Brian and I helped her hang it.

val04.jpg

also featuring Mikael Kennedy, Mike Powsner, Oriana Lewton-Leopold, Yoni Kifle, and yours truly.

val05.jpg

I am very excited because in addition to some photos from Shanghai, I also got to hang my window show...I'm calling it the "dokuchan series" because most of these images originally appeared here in my photoblog....shrinky photos!

val06.jpg

lauren you better come visit me soon

val07.jpg

pure rock! and on that tip, witness me start jumping into the ocean just before sunset:

val08.jpg

this photo taken by dana b, who has promised a special report for dokuchan on her upcoming adventures as merch girl for the m. ward tour - stay tuned

so there have been many fine festivals of late (CTBIII, Halleluwah) and I haven't told or shown you anything about them...it's a little overwheming to be honest. Two more are currently ramping up, TBA and MFNW.
I dj at the Works next tuesday night, should you be free, and I am also djing for MFNW tomorrow, then on friday you really should come and see my band riddenpaa, also many other fine bands, at holocene. here's a poster I just made for it ten minutes ago:

poster09.jpg

UPDATE: I messed up the poster it should read SEPTEMBER 8 not august (thanks brian!)...TOMORROW!
also I am djing the seaplane fashion show tonight, if you're going I 'll see you there! and check out the new show at Reading Frenzy, I (heart) portland, I have a photo in it. If you don't live in portland, I am sorry to rub your nose in stuff you can't go witness.

state fair

statefair1.jpg

are you somehow in town (portland, for you faraway readers of the blog) and have nothing to do this long holiday weekend? I suggest a quick drive to salem and a visit to the fair.

statefair2.jpg

goats wearing goofy outfits! (to keep them clean before judging) I love a goat.

statefair3.jpg

check out the horse pavilion, super contrast-y photo booths, livestock, and especially the 4-H and expo pavilions. If you avoid the madness of the demo/selling pavilion these areas are so much mellower than the carnival area and showcase the many talents of oregonians like table setting, quilting, baking, and seed grass growing. I was impressed and humbled.

statefair4.jpg

don't forget finger puppets for your friend's kids

statefair5.jpg

pickle n jam contests! next year claire and I will enter our "hot n sweet apocalypse radishes"

statefair6.jpg

presented by...whaaaa? enjoy the weekend! oregon state fair's last day is monday....
