Rap Snacks

| | Comments (4)

Last night I stumbled upon this amazing product at 7-11 Rap Snacks. After checking out the selection--Sour Cream & Onion, Red Hot Riplets, Sour Cream & Extra Cheddar, Platinum Bar-B-Que, Bar-B-Que with Honey and Southern Crunk Barbeque--I went with the Crunk. Each flavor promotes a certain artist, so with my selection I had YoungBloodz. The back of the bag contains some artist bio information along with the claim "The Official Snack of Hip-Hop!"

(Also, apparently they are associated with Rock Snacks, which are naturally "The Offical Snack of Rock!" The Rock Snacks web site promotes "Stay Away From Guns" "Stay Close To Rock Snacks!", "Say No To Drugs" "Say Yes To Rock Snacks!")

So how did the Southern Crunk BBQ taste? Uhh, pretty good--kind of distinctive, but not really all that great with beer. After all, what good is a snack if it doesn't go with beer?!

The World's Largest Ice Pop Meltdown

20810963_25073e42b3_t.jpgJared pointed me to this CNN/Money article about Snapple's attempt to beat a 10-ton mark for world's largest ice pop. The dream was destroyed "when the enormous frozen pop turned into slush and spilled onto the streets of New York City." No one was reported injured by the 35,000 pounds of kiwi-strawberry sludge, but the area was closed off and the NYC Fire Department was called in to hose off the sidewalks.

Due to the unfortunate meltdown the Guinness World Records did not validate the attempt.

Some photos of the failed attempt on Flickr.

Corn Man Provides

cornman.jpgThe other day I met a new friend at the Anzen market here in Portland. His name is Corn Man. Well, that's not exactly true. He tried to tell me his name, but I couldn't understand it for I do not speak Japanese. He gave me a wonderful corn puffy style treat that tasted so rich and more like corn than any treat I had ever tried. Corn Man prepares his treat on a barbeque. Many people wait for him to prepare his lovely treats. Some of his biggest fans are a nice fox and a lovely raccoon. The nice fox is such a fan of Corn Man that he even wears a hat of Corn Man's pleasant face. The nice fox and lovely raccoon wait somewhat impatiently for the snack to be ready. I understand their impatience, the snack is very good. If I knew where to find the Corn Man barbecuing his wonderful snack treats I would go there and wait impatiently as well.

backdudes.jpgThe nice fox, the lovely raccoon, the hungry frog (in the upper right hand corner), and I all wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful snack. I also think these dudes on the right, who are on the back of the snack package also recommend the wonderful snack, but again, I cannot be sure because I am unfamiliar with their language. You should be able to find Corn Man's wonderful snack at Japanese markets. CORN MAN.

$100 Cheese Steak

102982.jpgPHILADELPHIA -- We showed you the biggest burger, but this is so much more elegant. A philly cheese steak made of sliced Kobe beef, melted Taleggio cheese, shaved truffles, sautéed foie gras, caramelized onions and heirloom shaved tomatoes on a homemade brioche roll brushed with truffle butter and squirted with homemade mustard, served with champagne for $100.

Barclay Prime owner Stephen Starr created this blue-collar fancy food. He is an acclaimed restaurateur who has opened 13 eateries since 1995.

A digitalcity.com review of Barclay Prime says, "For this, Philly restaurateur extraordinaire Stephen Starr's 13th venue, he's gone more or less mainstream. For the man who brought eclectic Asian, Latin American and Middle Eastern cuisine to the city, what could be more ho-hum than bringing yet another power steak house to the region? The interior is all grand dark woods, rich leathers and fine glass chandeliers. So far, the interior is not much representative of Starr's infamous playfulness -- what gives his restaurants their cache. His creativity is revealed, however, on the menu. Amongst the usual suspects (seafood, raw bar, lobster and oysters) and a veritable prairie's worth of fine, aged meat (porterhouse, kobe, Gachot & Gachot prime ribeye), Starr has added a few twists, including a foie gras PB&J and Amish organic chicken."

It's true, the rumored six pounds of beef burger does exist. This honestly makes me very hungry and want to visit Clearfield, Pennsylvania.
