Eating The World Cup

By kmikeym from June 11, 2006

The World Cup would normally be wrote about over on True Fan, but over at the Hott Denn (World Cup HQ) we decided to track down beer from each country. As we started tracking down the beer we also decided rather last minute to create foods from each country.

The first game was Germany vs. Costa Rica. The main course was bratwurst with sauerkraut, served alongside gallo pinto. Everything I read online was about how the food from Costa Rica was pretty boring. Additionally I was unable to locate Lizano Sauce. It sounds great though, so I think I'll probably order some online.

We ended night one watching the last part of the Poland vs. Ecuador match. After some late night dishes we closed up the Hott Denn about midnight and then woke up at 8:30 on Saturday for the next event, England vs. Paraguay. John made his classic English Breakfast and I presented fruits from Paraguay as well as some yerba matte.

We've got so many more matches and I have a lot of food research ahead of me. I'm really looking forward to USA vs. Italy where I can re-create the famous pizza burger.

Even though I truly detest American Football, every year I throw a party and serve food based on the foods of the competing cities (this year it was smoked salmon, Starbucks and Hale's vs. Kielbasa, pierogies and Iron City). It makes sporting events so much more exciting...
