'Most expensive sandwich' on sale

By kmikeym from April 13, 2006

_41542850_sandwich203.jpgVia the BBC: The McDonald sandwich - named after its creator Scott McDonald, the chef at London department store Selfridges - is said to be the world's most expensive.

"I think if you are a food lover, this represents great value for money," Ewan Venters, Selfridges food director, said.

"Some of the finest ingredients from around the world have been used to create this fabulous sandwich."

The ingredients of the sandwich are: Wagyu beef, fresh lobe foie gras, black truffle mayonnaise, brie de meaux, rocket, red pepper and mustard confit and English plum tomatoes. (via bb)

rocket?????

also, how much is it??

Posted by Steve Schroeder @ April 13, 2006 4:37 PM

Rocket is a lettuce-like plant that has a hot peppery flavor.

The price is 100 pounds, which is $175.21 in US dollars.

Rocket = arugula. It's like how the Brits call zucchini "vegetable marrows." Eeew.

Anyway, I think this sandwich is totally ridiculous. It's porn for wanna-be foodies who clearly don't take the time to really taste and enjoy their food. Brie de Meaux is a crazy cheese that will blow your mind with its subtlety. There's no way you can enjoy what's special about it when it's competing with foie gras, truffles, and mustard. The same can be said for any of the ingredients.
