Kottke On Sandwiches

October 26, 2005 (1) Comments

Jason Kottke reflects on the elements of the sandwich:

"The keys to a good sandwich are the three Bs: bread, balance, and...ok, there's only two Bs, but they're important."

"There's nothing I like more than a good BLT..."

"If the sandwich maker is doing his job right, you should be able to taste most of the ingredients separately and together at the same time."

Traditional English Breakfast

October 13, 2005 (8) Comments

I recently watched one of my favorite films the other night, and noticed people scarfing down English breakfasts with pure delight. The same day Mike sent me this story and I couldn't stand it anymore--I had such a craving for "the traditional" and it needed to be taken care of. Instead of waiting for the weekend fare at the Horse Brass I decided to make it myself.

A quick stop at Fred's took care of the main ingredients, and a special trip to
World Market (for the indispensable HP sauce) and I was ready....and wow, did it taste better than expected. I rarely cook meat--but the Foreman took care of the sausages, and the potatoes were made a bit special with onions and rosemary. Perhaps I should have tried to make fried bread, but I am quite pleased with this first attempt. Now all I need to do is watch some association football and I'll be reliving those London glory days.
