The World's Largest Ice Pop Meltdown

By kmikeym from June 22, 2005

20810963_25073e42b3_t.jpgJared pointed me to this CNN/Money article about Snapple's attempt to beat a 10-ton mark for world's largest ice pop. The dream was destroyed "when the enormous frozen pop turned into slush and spilled onto the streets of New York City." No one was reported injured by the 35,000 pounds of kiwi-strawberry sludge, but the area was closed off and the NYC Fire Department was called in to hose off the sidewalks.

Due to the unfortunate meltdown the Guinness World Records did not validate the attempt.

Some photos of the failed attempt on Flickr.

The best part was that Jared sent me the article and recommended it for Digest, so i was working on the post, and wanted to use a photo, but I didn't want to steal the CNN one, so I went to Flickr and looked at the Snapple tag. BAM! There was the whole thing documented. Amazing.

I hope Snapple had to pay for all that firefighter overtime.
