7vs7: Introduction
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Could you survive on it for a week? That was the conversation that sparked the 7vs7 Food Challenge. Seven days of eating just seven ingredients. The rules are harsh; Only water, salt, and pepper are free. Everything else must be one of your seven. How important is coffee to you? Can you cook without your olive oil?
To make things more interesting, everyone puts in $25, and whoever is left on day seven splits the pot. At what point is coffee worth $25? How about chocolate? What about pizza? Who will last seven days? Who will be the first eliminated?

Anyone want to make any sidebets?
this is best ever!! Steve's list is so insane, only fruits! Rebecca's list is pretty powerful, including coffee AND booze. It is a pretty brilliant combo, but that quinoa's sure gonna get old! p.s. NOBODY CHOSE BREAD???? except Adam, I guess. In a way. Pizza bread.
PIZZA WINE!!!!!!!!
Adam is actually not participating.
If you chose bread it would count as two ingredients. (Flour + Yeast)
I didn't really choose fruits. The whole debate rose weather you could only eat fruit for a week so I totally had to stick by it.
bread has more than one ingredient, usually at least three. so although you could have chosen bread, it would have taken at least multiple ingredients of your 7.....
I tried to get soyrizo but there are like ten things in it.
By that logic, shouldn't tortillas be off limits?
I think I would have to choose food that goes together in a cuisine. So, maybe sushi rice, edamame, nori, avocado, carrot, cucumber, and soy sauce. You can make bowls of stuff, you can make sushi rolls, you can make a big salad...I guess that's about it.
I take it back: sub eggs for nori. Then you could make all kinds of things also: omelettes (with edamame and avocado and cooked carrots), tamago sushi, hard boiled eggs in the salad...
Oh shit! But what about the sushi vinegar?! I would trade the cucumber for vinegar, I think. I think I would have to. But it would be a sacrifice.
judah is using corn only tortillas
CORN & WATA
not the floury type.
So sad to be missing out on this! I think Rebecca's list gets my vote for most staying power, though I think Steve clearly gets the prize for best outfit.
I bet I could do like 3 ingredients:
rice
buffalo
whiskey
I bet I would win the money and the prestige.
In fact, I'm going to do that for the next MONTH just FOR FUN!
I want to do this sometime. Only for the money.
My list:
plain goat yogurt
rolled oats
apricot
kale
brown rice
bragg
peppermint tea
I don't think Bragg's would be legal. That's a lot of amino acids. Different kinds!
is peppermint tea only 1 ingredient?
If white wine counts as one ingredient, Bragg's should count as one, too. The only ingredient in Bragg's is soybeans (and water, which is free, right?).
Peppermint tea is dried peppermint leaves and water.
Breakfast of champions.
I like to drink a glass of Bragg's first thing in the morning.
Steve is truly thriving in this challenge. World's Most Mysterious Human Body. I would have fritzed on fruit for sure
I tried to eat nothing for three days a couple weeks ago, and I made it to two, so relatively this seems like cake. But I am probably wrong! Go dudes! Go!
Sad to be a bummer on you, but only Steve, Jona, Claire and Mikey's appear pure by your own rules: cheese and wine have at least seven ingredients. Masa corn flour is usually kernels slaked with lime so its definitely more than two.
I think you should start over.
The Council decided to allow those items. Many other items were rejected. But you are right. They lack purity.
When we looked at cheese labels it sure didn't look like 7. It looked like 2 and we decided not to make a stink about rennet or whatever.
DAY 3!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, I think this whole thing stemmed from an argument of varying seriousness between me and steve whether I could live for a week off of burritos, and he off fruit. it then rapidly expanded to the sinuous competition you see today. I think some of my ingredients were party forgiven to keep to this general principal. I switched to tacos (handmade, sans lime) to lessen the ingredients. there is no indication that there is lime in my masa flour, and usually you are supposed to add it whilst mixing it with water. the cheese does have multiple ingredients, though certainly not 7. TACOS FOREVER!
steve is going to poop
I'm just saying: the difference between an INGREDIENT and a FOOD PRODUCT is real. Claire should know, it's like calling H2O or hydro-carbon an element or something. Plus, a tangelo is raw and made by God. Sharp cheddar is cooked with many things and made by Trader Joe's in Monrovio.
e
I think cheddar would have about the same amount of ingredients as Tofu (which uses coagulants and salts to congeal the soy milk). also, aren't all modern fruits (those sold in markets) the product of hundreds of years of cross breeding and hybridization? I remember one of my biology profs showing me a picture of an original corn cob and it was the size of a pencap. Tangelos especially are a hybrid fruit (tangerine & pomelo). I agree, there is a distinct difference between INGREDIENT & FOOD PRODUCT, but I think we used the term "ingredient" pretty liberally for the sake of competition. WE SHOULD DO A MASTER CLEANSE BET SOMEDAY TOO.
rice wine, mango, and goat is all i consume at the moment!
rebecca's list is my favorite. can't wait to see who fares well!
As for the suggested side bet, it's clear that Lauren is the one to beat if the lists of ingredients alone are anything to go by.
Then again I had expected Jona to still be in there, so what do I know?
man steve is gonna hurt with just fruit. i did that for 3 days once and could not handle it. veggies and fruit, oh yeah, but simply fruit. ouch, in more ways than one...
