$100 Cheese Steak
PHILADELPHIA -- We showed you the biggest burger, but this is so much more elegant. A philly cheese steak made of sliced Kobe beef, melted Taleggio cheese, shaved truffles, sautéed foie gras, caramelized onions and heirloom shaved tomatoes on a homemade brioche roll brushed with truffle butter and squirted with homemade mustard, served with champagne for $100.
Barclay Prime owner Stephen Starr created this blue-collar fancy food. He is an acclaimed restaurateur who has opened 13 eateries since 1995.
A digitalcity.com review of Barclay Prime says, "For this, Philly restaurateur extraordinaire Stephen Starr's 13th venue, he's gone more or less mainstream. For the man who brought eclectic Asian, Latin American and Middle Eastern cuisine to the city, what could be more ho-hum than bringing yet another power steak house to the region? The interior is all grand dark woods, rich leathers and fine glass chandeliers. So far, the interior is not much representative of Starr's infamous playfulness -- what gives his restaurants their cache. His creativity is revealed, however, on the menu. Amongst the usual suspects (seafood, raw bar, lobster and oysters) and a veritable prairie's worth of fine, aged meat (porterhouse, kobe, Gachot & Gachot prime ribeye), Starr has added a few twists, including a foie gras PB&J and Amish organic chicken."
