"I want people to realize that we did not stay in the city so that we could steal and loot and commit crimes. A lot of those young men lost their minds because the helicopters would fly over us and they wouldn't stop. And it came to a point where these young men were so frustrated that they did start shooting. They weren't trying to get the helicopters. They thought maybe if they heard the gunfire, they would stop then. But that didn't help us. No one helped us."

Hey Charmaine...
I saw that video link. Then, wanting to prepare an email for my friends to see it too - because you sure do know how to say what needs to be heard - I ran a google search,
and found your old life... your life before Katrina - a life that didn't come to you to even mention on the news video while you were tellin' that there are still people back in the 9th Ward, and don't bother to say here either, but I think people should know:
http://www.charmainenevilleband.com/

Now I know that don't make you more or less... but it helps people to know that Katrina didn't care (like Bush & FEMA & Nagin & Blanco) and people need to understand what the news ain't sayin' - and that's that people had JOBS, and HOUSES, and LIVES.

I want to say I am so sorry for what happened to you but sorry isn't/can never be enough to let you know what other people who watched this, helplessly, feel for you and the thousands and thousands who will carry this now. Nothin' in my lifetime this bad has ever happened and it's not even done yet. God bless you and restore you until you can sleep again at night, and I pray for your voice to stay raised.
I think we need to stay mad,
but centered in our love for one another

Hi Charmaine ....I am a close friend of Wendy's who lives in NY. She told me you will be preforming in Ithica next week and wants me to drive up there and hug you for her! Where exactly are you going to be......??

Cher Charmaine, My heart, my love, my prayers...my all are with you. When you return to N.O., it would be my greatest honor to roll up my sleeves and get to work next to you. A chief I'm not, but I'm a damn good brave. My house didn't flood, and sustained relatively little damage. You're welcome to call it home. It's small, but there's a whole lotta love there. Its open to as many people we can fit, and then more. Then we'll cook up a big pot of gumbo, play piano, sing and celebrate our great big family. Chez nous est chez vous. Bienvenu.
