In the parking lot of the Hit Factory, lately relocated to a compound in a ramshackle, section of North Miami, there was a topless white Lambo, more stunning, even, than the (B?)lood-red Phantom a few spots away. Its space was marked "Reserved for Mr. Storch."
Anyway, there's something to be said for a city so uninterested in taking itself seriously that you can hear New Order and Information Society on drive-time radio, and I don't mean on the dance station. FM formatting does not traffic in irony.
Which is why it was strange that I didn't hear rap's second-best beard until just before I hit the airport heading out. That song is all late-night creep, all terror of wide streets and low buildings. It's not claustrophobia, like feeling the projects come crashing down on you, but a mist of gloom, of fear, of holyfuck. Them bitches spinnin' still.

Also, had been looking for an excuse to post this incredibly bizarre video of Hawk rapping with footballer Clint Dempsey, shilling (though beautifully, it must be said) for Nike Soccer. This wasn't the news peg I was hoping for.
