First off, for your awesome, truth-telling treatment of my relationship question: thank you. Not only for the generosity with which you labored over the particulars of my problem, but also for the sensitively brutal yet kindly direct handling of said problem. You’re absolutely right, it’s not an age issue! I think I was confusing matters by subbing in a surface-issue-I-can’t-change for a deeply-interior-issue-I-can’t-change. Thank you for making so many allowances, too, for the real world complications attendant to this relationship, and amid those allowances, I came to agree that change IS possible at any age, and while this will be very difficult for my old dog, I am happy to report that Old Dog is willing to try, and that I know my own bottom line well enough to know when it has been crossed. I loved the pizza-with-a-pile-of-shit analogy. Will use it in my own advisings! I am always telling friends going through difficult times with their loves that you can’t always measure the stuff by the good, because the good is always good, categorically!
