"We're borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet... that's got to change."
earlier this week, Al Gore made a great and important speech that didn't get the attention that it deserved.
"When demand for oil and coal increases, their price goes up. When demand for solar cells increases, the price often comes down."
below is the entire speech, or you can find the full transcript and more information here. the speech is 27 minutes, it frustrates me to think about how many Americans have time to watch some half hour sit-com but claim to not have enough time to watch this:
The persistent right-wing smear of Al Gore truly breaks my heart. I just don't know how anyone could dismiss these issues and then look their grandchildren in the eye. The combustion engine, and energy that we have gathered from the burning of fossil fuels, has allowed us to build a great country, but now we must realize that it's time to evolve to the next step.
"When we send money to foreign countries to buy nearly 70 percent of the oil we use every day, they build new skyscrapers and we lose jobs. When we spend that money building solar arrays and windmills, we build competitive industries and gain jobs here at home."
